There's a slogan you sometimes hear among frustrated job-seekers who find a position they want but don't have the exact qualifications for: "Fake it until you make it."
That approach might be tenable for some kinds of work, but when the job in question requires you to drive a tractor-trailer or keep one running - or, for that fact, oversee the cybersecurity of a transportation company's data - faking it won't fly. However, identifying truly qualified applications from among a flood of resumes can be a daunting task for HR departments.
An Arkansas tech company, iDatafy, is trying to alleviate that burden by offering - to both employers and job seekers - a platform where only verified information on college degrees, liceses, certificates and professional credentials can be found. The platform, called SmartResume, is built on blockchain so the data is secure and each qualification can be traced back to its source.
The promise of SmartResume was such that the University of Arkansas System has singed on as a partner. Michael Moore, PHD., the system's vice president for academic affairs, said in a statement that it represented an innovative and truly impactful idea for both students and employers.
"SmartResume immediately opens previously hidden doors for students and alumni and gives them an edge in quickly finding valuable employment opportunities that otherwise may not have been discovered," said Moore. "Employers have at their fingertips potential employees who already have their skills, credentials, and degrees verified, which wipes away may of the uncertainties and potential pitfalls of recruiting and retaining quality employees. Streamlining the hiring process to be more inclusive, honest and opportunistic for everyone is the overall benefit that SmartResume provides.
"Anything we can do to present more opportunities and showcase the verified skills and accomplishments of students while also helping the workforce and economy is why we became an initial partner in this promising endeavor," he said.
